Professor Dr. Sutharm Areekul, the 10th Kasetsart University President

Professor Dr. Sutharm Areekul was the 10th President of Kasetsart University (June 8, 1986 – June 7, 1992). He was born on May 4, 1931 at Talad sub-district, Muang district, Suratthani province, son of Mr. Hui Hong Areekul and Mrs. Pinh Areekul (Issarapanich). When he was 2 years old and his sister was born, he was sent to stay at his grandfather’s. After completing the secondary level year 6 from the School of Suratthani Province in 1946, he pursued year 7-8 at Amnuay Silpa School, Bangkok by staying with his aunt. It came to the difficulty when he had to make the decision which studying field he would choose. His father suggested for the engineering, his mother suggested for the school of medicine, his aunt suggested for the school of business, when his grandfather would be pleased with any choices as long as he continued his study. Finally, Professor Dr. Sutharm Areekul chose the agricultural field so that he would take care of his grandfather’s farmhouse. His best friend, Dr. Sermlap Wasuwat, also studied at the same place.
