Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat, Kasetsart University 17th Chairman of the University Council

Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat was the 17th Chairman of the Kasetsart University Council (September 2, 1959 – December 8, 1963). He was born on June 16, 1908 at Pahurad sub-district, Pra Nakorn province, son of Major Luang Ruengdejanan (Thongdi Thanarat) and Mrs. Jeantip Thanarat. Education: Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat followed his mother to Mukdaharn province and went to the School of Mukdaharn before coming back and went to Wat Mahannapharam School, Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy (former name the Royal Military Academy) in 1919 when he was only 11 years old.He worked in government service since April 1, 1926. He completed the secondary school year 6 in 1928. Government service: Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat worked in military service and made progress in his career. The important positions such as The 4th Infantry Division (1932), Artillery Battery Commander, Lopburi (1938), 1st Division Commanding General (1948), 1st King’s Guard Regiment (1950), Royal Thai Army Commander-in-Chief (1954), Commander in Chief (1957) and Acting Chief of Police (1959). In the political role, Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat was appointed the Deputy Minister of Interior (1951 – 1952), Minister of Interior (1957), Prime Minister after leading a military coup that concluded in the overthrow of the Field Marshal Thanom Kittikhajorn’s government (February 9, 1959). In 1963, he was appointed the Ministry of National Development and the Prime Minister until he died on December 8, 1963.
