Field Marshal Phin Choonhawan, Kasetsart University 14th Chairman of the University Council

Field Marshal Phin Choonhawan, was the 14th Chairman of the Kasetsart University Council (December 12, 1953 – September 16, 1957). He was born on October 14, 1891 at Ban Bang Nok Kwak sub-district, Bang Kanatee district, Sumut Songkram province, son of Mr. Kai and Mrs. Plub Choonhawan, who was a farmer and traditional medicine doctor. He had 8 siblings. He received education from the monk at the temple, the same as other boys at his age in old times. He studied at Wat Pho Ngam located near his house; Wat Si Muen, located at Dam Nuen Saduak district, Ratchaburi province; Wat Mahannapharam, Wat Bowonniwet Vihara, Bangkok. Had to overcome many obstacles until he attended the Army Non Commissioned Officer School in 1909 and graduated in 1915. Formerly, Field Marshal Phin Choonhawan was bestowed with the noble title Luang Chamnanyutthasart. Even though he resigned from the noble title, he was still in government service as the Royal Thai Army Commander-in-Chief and was appointed the politician position. He was the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, Minister of Agriculture for 2 terms in 1953 and 1957. Therefore, Field Marshal Phin Choonhawan was the Chairman of the Kasetsart University Council for 2 terms, which were from December 12, 1953 – February 25, 1957, and from March 31 – September 16, 1957. Field Marshal Phin Choonhawan was married to Khun Ying Wibullak Choonhawan (dead) with 5 children (1) Khun Ying Udomlak Sriyanon, wife of Police General Phao Sriyanond (dead) (2) Ms. Proam, wife of Mr. Arun Thapparangsi (3) Ms. Charoen, wife of Major General Pramarn Adireksarn (4) Brigadier General Chatichai Choonhawan, married to Ms. Boonruean Sopoj (5) Mr. Pornsom, wife of Mr. Chalerm Chiewsakul. Field Marshal Phin Choonhawan’s second marriage was to Mrs. Suphab Choonhawan with 1 child, Mr. Prakormsak Choonhawan. Field Marshal Phin Choonhawan died on January 26, 1973 at Phramongkutklao Hospital, at 82 years, 3 months and thirteen days old.
