Associate Professor Dr. Santi Wiriyawit Vice President of Kasetsart University, Sriracha Campus.

Associate Professor Dr. Santi Wiriyawit was the Vice President of Kasetsart University, Sriracha Campus. First Term: June 18, 2002 – June 7, 2004 Second Term: June 18, 2004 – June 7, 2006. I have a temporary duty at the Sriracha Campus since the end of 1995 because of the persuasion of Archarn Pornthep Phatthananurak, who contacted me via Associate Professor Wutthichan Kapillakarn, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. During that time, I was in the position of the Head Department of Aero Space Engineering. Archarn Pornthep was the Deputy Director of Sriracha Campus Establishment Project and the Director of the Establishment Project of the Faculty of Industrial Technology, and later become the Dear of the Faculty of Engineering at Sriracha. From 1996 – 1997, there was only 1 building on Sriracha Campus, which was Building No. 1 – the Academic Service, there were 3-4 wooden building and 2 more buildings under the construction, which were Building No. 2, the Laboratory Building for Engineering, and Building No. 3, the personnel residential building. The road inside the campus was all dirt roads. It was muddy during the rainy season, dusty during the dry season. It was difficult to travel from Bangkhen to Sriracha due to the main road, Bangna-Trad and the Motorway were under construction. The first student batch of Sriracha Campus was in the year 1996, a total of 203 students enrolled in the Faculty of Management Science. The Faculty of Environmental and Resources Management and the Faculty of Engineering at Sriracha (or the Faculty of Industrial Technology during that period) had the first batch of students in the next year. The first batch students were quite the pioneer of the campus as they had to walk in a muddy way and climb the mountain on the way from Building No. 1 and Building No. 2 in order to go to class. They had to have their meal in the wooden cafeteria building (which was demolished and the area was used for Physical Education building) and lived in the old wooden building within the campus. In 1998, the Faculty of Engineering decided to move the construction location of Building No. 4, the Laboratory Building for the Aero Space from the Kamphaeng Saen Campus to Sriracha Campus. This was with agreement of lecturer Pornthep Phatthananurak, Associate Professor Wutthichan Kapillakarn, and I. This building comprised of the laboratory for aerospace, structural, the laboratory for aerodynamics, where the large wind tunnel was purchased using the budget from the World Bank Loan. On July 14, 1999, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua presided over the anointing the auspicious foundation stone and pins for Kasetsart University, Sriracha Campus, and presided over the opening ceremony of the Laboratory Building of Aero Space Engineering. Moreover, I was the Chairperson of the Bachelor of Engineering Program in Aerospace Engineering, the co-program with Royal Thai Air Force. Professor Air Marshall Dr. Chun Chansuda was the program advisor. This program was opened at Bangkhen in 1993. And I was the Chairperson of the Bachelor of Engineering Program in Shipbuilding and Ship Engineering, co-program with the Royal Thai Navy. Professor,Vice Admiral Jitt Na Nakorn and Captain Dr. Pongsan Thawilprawat were the advisor. This program was opened at the Sriracha Campus in 2000. On June 8, 2002, Associate Professor Dr. Viroch Impithuksa was graciously bestowed with the position of the University President. He entrusted me by assigning the position of Vice President of the Sriracha Campus. I accepted this mission willingly because I thought that managing the Sriracha campus was a challenging job at the Sriracha campus had to be self-reliant and being dependent. Each year, 20% of the total budget were an annual government expenditure, 80% were from the campus income. Approximately 80% of the total number of personnel were a university employee. Many of the construction projects used the campus income or borrowed from the Kasetsart University Savings and Credit Cooperative Limited. In the early year, the Sriracha Campus faced the difficulty of the construction delay in many projects, namely the Building No. 6 Lecture Hall, Building No. 7 Student Dormitory, and Building No. 8 Main Cafeteria due to the irresponsible contractor and the construction did not meet the standard. The campus must closely monitor, accelerate, and control the construction until completion. The problem of lacking the place for teaching, studying and student activities were relieved when the construction of Building No. 9 Activity Center, Building No. 10 Lecture Hall 2, and Building No. 11 Physical Plant & Vehicle were completed. Also, Building No. 12 Buddha Sassanasatharn “Sri Tham Kaset”, and Building No. 13 Physical Education were under construction. Building No. 14 the 10th Year Commemoration Library Building, Building No. 15 Laboratory Building for Science and Technology, Student Dormitory, and Building No. 16 Business Study were under the design stage. Sriracha Campus has a small and relatively limited area. At that time, there was an area under the supervision of 270 Rai. Later, Laem Chabang sub-district Municipality asked to build a stadium about 70 Rai. Currently, there are 199 Rai, 48 square wah. Kasetsart University asked for permission to use the area on the Nam Sup Mountain, which was under the Royal Forest Department’s supervision, a total of 340 Rai. The campus has to manage the limited area effectively. The first administrator team included Archarn Pornthep Phatthananurak, Assistant Professor Dr. Wicharn Phuphat, Assistant Professor Phasom Phetjamras, Associate Professor Thongchai Kamphee, Assistant Professor Pairoj Uttrapong, Associate Professor Sri-or Somboonsup, Archarn Jamlong Jiamjamnanja, Associate Professor Amnaj Theerawanich, and Archarn Termsak Sukwibool (Source: Kasetsart University, Sriracha Campus.
