The Opening Ceremony of the Lotus Memorial Park
On Mar 1, 2016, at 8:00 am, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn traveled in the royal car from Phu Phan Ratchaniwet Palace, Muang district, Sakon Nakhon province, and presided over the Opening Ceremony of the Lotus Memorial Park. Mr. Adisak Thep-Ards, the Provincial Governor; Associate Professor Dr.Viroch Impithuksa the Chairman of Kasetsart University Council; Dr. Chongrak Wachrinrat, the Acting Kasetsart University President; Associate Professor Dr. Wilaisak Kingkam, the Acting Vice President of Kasetsart University, the Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus; the civil servants, officers, and the people of Sakon Nakhon province had an audience of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Dr. Chongrak Wachrinrat, the Acting Kasetsart University President reported on the construction of the Lotus Memorial Park at Nong Han Chalermphrakiat Park that it was constructed in the Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 5th Cycle Birthday Anniversary in 2016. The Lotus Memorial Park was located in the Nong Han Chalermphrakiat Park, Kasetsart University, the Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus, Sakon Nakhon province. It was supported by the Department of Fisheries allowing Kasetsart University to utilize an area of 700 rais in Nong Han Noi, Tah Raeh sub-district, Muang district, Sakon Nakhon province and develop the Nong Han Chalermphrakiat Park in the Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary, December 5, 2016. An area of 50 Rais in Nong Han Noi was dedicated to the Lotus Memorial Park. The Lotus Memorial Park by Kasetsart University, the Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus had been experimenting on the lotus plantation and conducting the research related to lotus such as the benefits of each lotus species since 2005. In 2008, it accumulated the lotus species, especially the Royal Lotus from the Northeast region and continuously conducted the lotus-related research. In 2009, Kasetsart University, the Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus, in collaboration with the Lotus Association of Thailand, Lotus Lover Group, had initiated the Lotus Memorial Park Development Project. It received budget support from the Sakon Nakhon province for hosting the Lotus International Fair at Nong Han Chalermphrakiat Park 2010.
