Professor Dr. Thira Sutabutra, the 12th Kasetsart University President

Professor Dr. Thira Sutabutra was the 12th President of Kasetsart University (June 8, 1996 – June 7, 2002). He was born on December 21, 1941, the fourth son from six children of Mr. Hirun Sutabutra, the former Director General of the Revenue Department, and Mrs. Renu Sutabutra (the former last name was Jullasamai), the former teacher in government service, the Headmaster and the Co-founder of Somthavil Rachadamri School. He went to Darunotayarn School and Assumption College. He had studied in the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Kasetsart University for 3 years (from 1959 – 1962) and received the diploma. In 1962, Kasetsart University encouraged him to enter the competition of OCSC Scholarship, the scholarship from Thai Government, and win the scholarship to study the Plant Pathology at the University of California at Davis, the United States, and received the bachelor’s degree, the master’s degree, and the doctoral degree. When he returned to Thailand, he served as the faculty in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, Kasetsart University, when he was only 26 years, 6 months old.
