Major Khuang Abhaiwongse, Kasetsart University 7th Chairman of the University Council

Major Kuang Apaiwong was the 7th Chairman of the Kasetsart University Council (November 11, 1947 – November 21, 2490). He was born on May 17, 1902 at Pratabong province (Pratabong province was still part of the Burapa region of Thailand), son of Chaopraya Abhaiphubejhr (Chum Abhaiwong) and Khun Ying Rod Abhaiwongse. In 1907, when the Burapa region was ceded to Siem Reap and Pratabong was ceded to France, his family moved to settle down in Prachinburi province. He went to Wat Debsirin School and continue his elementary school and secondary school at Assumption College, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Ecole Centrale de Lyon, France in 1927. During his study in France, he associated with the Thai students who become important persons in Thai politics. When he got back to Thailand, he worked at the Post and Telegraph Department and was appointed the Director General of the Post and Telegraph Department. In 1935, he had the noble title of Luang Kovit Abhaiwongse before resigned from the noble title and become a professional politician. Major Khuang Abhaiwongse was the one of those who initiated the Democrat Party. He had an outstanding working records in politic career whether on the coalition or opposition. Major Khuang Abhaiwongse hold the position of the Prime Minister for 4 terms. Even though short period in each term, it was always in the critical situation such as the World War II. Moreover, he was the Minister in various Ministry. Also he was appointed the Ministry of Agriculture from November 22, 1947. Therefore, Major Khuang Abhaiwongse was also appointed the Chairman of the Kasetsart University Council. He was married to Khun Ying Lekha Abhaiwongse, had 3 children who are Mr. Dirok Abhaiwongse, Mr. Katha Abhaiwongse, and Ms. Klor Abhaiwongse. Major Khuang Abhaiwongse died on Friday, Mar 15, 1968, 65 year and 10 months old.
